Disney Meets Punk Rock!?

Today, I was casually scrolling through Facebook like the old person I am, and I came across a post that made me do an instant doubletake. I know that could be a number of things since we are talking Facebook here -- a political meme, a mug shot of some kid from your high school, a post about the latest MLM, an advertisement for a product you were just talking about the night before (creepy) -- the possibilities are endless. But this was an ad in fact... an ad that had me, as the kids say, shooketh.

This post was an advertisement for "A Whole New Sound" - the latest official soundtrack release of top reimagined Disney hits... as sung by our favorite pop-punk/punk-rock/emo bands (and a few newer artists). WHAT!?

I say again... WHAT!?!

Something so nostalgically beautiful - could such a thing be true!? The post was shared by Yellowcard's official FB page so there was no it way it could be a joke. And yet, I did immediately go to Instagram to track down the same post (is IG what I consider to be trusted these days?) followed by a quick Google search... and there it was. Sure enough.

Not only was it true but the first single (by Simple Plan) had already been released 3 weeks ago, followed by the next single from The Goofy Movie a week later. How did I miss all this? I really don't know how Facebook's algorithm did not tell me sooner.

This is seriously awesome. Especially for every Disney adult who had at least one wardrobe piece from Hot Topic in middle school. (That might sound extremely niche but I am willing to bet there's a lot of us out there whose playlist jumps from "I'll Make a Man Out of You" to "Ocean Avenue" in the same breath ...songs that were probably both downloaded from LimeWire). Yeah - that's right. You know who you are ^_^

8/16/24 Update: The album can now be pre-saved on Spotify & iTunes... and the third single (Part of Your World) video was released!

So there you have it folks. Another win for nostalgia. Disney really has answered our wish upon a star this time - with the soundtrack we never know we wanted but desperately needed. *adds to Spotify library*
